I chose this specific ad to talk about because 9 times out of 10 a commercial for cleaning supplies have women showing the product. It is an obvious stereotype that women stay at home to cook and clean all day. Based off our history this was true in the past, but as years keep passing by women can do way more than just clean. This ad really grinds my gears especially because of the caption, "This mother's day, get back to the job that really matters." Why is it aimed towards mothers day? What about fathers day? Or any day for that matter? Women are stronger and are capable of doing more than just clean. Also the child in the ad is also a girl. As the world updates with women equality, so should advertisements.

Film Blog- The Mask You Live In
Growing up there was always these unwritten rules in our society that associated the color pink with girls and blue with boys. Usually when you think of a child playing with a doll you would imagine a girl holding it. Same idea with toy trucks and boys. My earliest memory of having this so-called "rule" of separating items by gender was probably when I was 4 years old and our family friend Kurt was 5. Kurt used to love wearing my dress up clothes and putting on our mom's makeup. Me, being a little girl saw no issues with this because I had someone to play with! That was until our older brothers would tease him and think Kurt was weird because he wasn't outside riding on skateboards with the other boys. Thankfully Kurt stuck to what he wanted to do and was always there to play dress up with me!

Here's To The Book
Here's to the book that made me laugh. Here's to the book that made me cry. Here's to the book that made all the memories flood back. Here's to the book that made me look at life differently. Here's to the book, The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. At the time I was reading this book, that every girl in the world was fan girl-ing over, my grammy got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It's not something that anyone wants to hear or takes lightly. The Fault In Our Stars however, circles around a teenage girl and boy who have cancer. Since they are young, they try to do anything and everything they can to make their life feel fulfilled even though there is a time limit. Hazel Grace, the main character has a very unique look on the world. She is very blunt, but courageous. She's a dreamer, but also a realist. Her views on life are different from everyone until she meets Gus Waters. Gus Waters is a goofy, fun loving guy who will do anything for Hazel Grace. Although this story has moments of being very uplifting, there are also moments of the gruesome reality they face. As my family and I were going through this struggle, the book became more real to me. Life should never be put on a time limit. But life is also unfair. What I took out of this book is to make any situation in life work, and attain satisfaction of living a life worthwhile. When going to the hospital and all you see is tired, disconsolate faces, you want an escape. I buried my head in a book that gave me hope. Although at the end of the book one of the characters passes away (spoiler alert) it shows the harsh truth that all good things must come to an end. My Grammy was one of the best things to come into my life and even though her life was put on a timer, she never stopped smiling. She embraced every moment, of every day, and shared so many of the same characteristics as Hazel and Gus. The book, The Fault In Our Stars will always hold a special place in my heart because every time I read it, I can remember all the good and the bad and all the in between. Even if you have already read this book, I suggest you read it again if you have experienced someone having a sickness that has won. It will mean so much more, I promise. Here's to my sunshine. 12/19/2015

First Impressions
The first day I walked into class I saw a few familiar faces. In particular I saw Hannah Costello. I knew she was quiet and sweet, but that was about it. The other day in class we got an assignment to interview a classmate. The thing about first impressions is that it's a hit or miss situation. Thankfully, Hannah's first impression from me was a major hit. Hannah mentioned that people misunderstand her because she has "resting bitch face." Behind her RBF is an independent young woman who took me by surprise. The more I got to know Hannah, the more I realized she wasn't just a quiet, sweet girl. She has very strong opinions, is a great talker, and a new friend! Hannah's love for animals stood out to me the most...not only because she works at a vet, but because she actually rescued a cat from being put down! Being an animal person myself, you already know I made a new friend. As we talked some more Hannah told me her role model was her mother. Her mother is very independent (just like her) and if it wasn't for her mom she would never get anything done. The way she talked about her mom is how any mother would want their children to describe them. Hannah said she has very few friends but her mother is always there to pick her up when she's down and is always around to get her nails done. Hannah also mentioned her sister who seemed very near and dear to her heart. Hannah has a very unique personality to say the least. Mostly because she is insane when it comes to cleaning but every story she told about it made me laugh. She said that when they go on family vacations she likes to watch the cleaning people as they clean their room. She has a sense of humor like no other and has a very contagious smile. One of the questions I asked was, "What is one thing on your bucket list?" She replied with asking if I knew the show Tiny Houses and I of course answered with a huge YES! Hannah then went on explaining how she dreams to live in a tiny house and travel. She said at first it could be a year and eventually turn into a permanent home! When Hannah get's older she wants to work as a special education teacher in elementary schools. That shows me she has a caring, patient personality and it's very inspiring! It takes a certain person to work in that profession and I think she will be great in it! Overall my first impression of Hannah was that she is a warmhearted, comical, and loyal person who I'm so glad I got the opportunity to get to know better.

Welcome to my world
I'm just going to start off by saying that all my friends call me the "mom" of the group. I feel like that perfectly describes me as a person. OK anyway let me formally introduce myself. Hi, my name is Olivia D'Aprile! You can call me "mom" if you would like. Just kidding that's weird. Im a senior in high school at Freedom High School and I'm a very involved student. I do everything from student council, to the theater company, and I'm the Vice President of my class. Living a positive and fulfilled life is what I aim to do. Im more on the busy side when it comes to a day to day schedule between dance, school, and extra curriculars. I basically jam pack eating, sleeping, and sometimes even breathing somewhere in there. My support system is my rock in keeping me sane throughout the year. For example, my family starts with my parents Ray and Barb. They had my two brothers, Michael and Steven, and then me. Im obviously the favorite child being their only girl, but lets just keep that one between us. My friend group consists of the typical kids who grow up together throughout the school years. My best friend Taylor is someone I've known since diapers and she's the type of friend you hangout with everyday and don't get sick of. I also have a group of friends from dance who I spend everyday with after school so you could say we've gotten pretty close. I see them more than I see my family because i'm training with them for 4-5 hours everyday. Dance is a huge part of my life. I hope to minor in it so I can one day teach it along with being an elementary school teacher! Im also a typical girl who loves makeup, beauty, and fashion. So that's me and welcome to my world!!
